What is Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy?

Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) is based on a combination of Mindfulness Meditation (non-religious) and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and is the only evidence-based Mindfulness/Meditation therapy approved by NICE (National Institute for Health and Care Excellence).

About the Course

“The core skill to be learned is how to exit and stay out of negative thinking routines”

The 8-week course is accessible to anyone who is interested in mindfulness-based approaches to health and wellbeing and no prior knowledge or experience of meditation is needed.  It is made up of 8, two hour sessions, with one practice session and will teach you how to manage stress, anxiety and improve general wellbeing.

Over the weeks you will learn how to relate skillfully to the pressures and demands of everyday life. People who practise the strategies regularly may find lasting physical and psychological benefits such as:

  • reduced anxiety and stress
  • higher levels of energy and enthusiasm for life
  • improved sleeping patterns
  • living in the present moment
  • an improved ability to manage emotions

Strategies used in MBCT:

  • meditations to include body scan, breathing meditation, walking meditation
  • living in the present moment
  • seeing thoughts as just ‘thoughts’
  • stepping out of automatic pilot
